The Schwarzwald Hotel is found in the little town of Gengenbach, surrounded by the rolling hills of the Black Forest. See lush meadows, pine clad hills, rushing rivers and traditional chocolate box villages. This is the land where houses have long sloping roofs and where workshops specialise in intricate carvings and cuckoo clocks. Our tour features 2 included scenic train journeys and a boat trip on Lake Titisee.

Day 1

We drive to Dover for our channel crossing to France and continue to our overnight at the Mercure Hotel Forbach Centre.

Day 2

We continue on through the Alsace, pausing at beautiful Strasbourg with its timbered buildings adorned with colourful flowers. Discover Strasbourg Cathedral with its intricate interior carvings which are simply captivating! Later, we cross into Germany, arriving at Gengenbach for our 5-night stay.

Day 3

A day to relax and explore. See the River Kinzig and the old town with its half-timbered houses and romantic narrow streets and alleyways. Before dinner we include a tasting at Gengenbach Winery, approximately 5 minute's walk from the hotel.

Day 4

We travel to the old walled town of Villingen and join the Black Forest Railway for a journey including loops, tunnels and a high viaduct. On then for a guided visit to the Black Forest Open Air Museum to find out more about the history and culture of the region.

Day 5

Today we visit beautiful Titisee for an included sightseeing cruise on the lake. We then include a trip on the Pig Tail Steam Railway between Blumberg and Weizen. It features many twists and turns and great photo opportunities

Day 6

We drive to Triberg, which houses the largest cuckoo clock in the world and is home to Germany's highest waterfalls. We visit the Schwarzwaldmuseum - a fascinating museum which demonstrates the culture and working life of the Black Forest community from the past to the present day, including traditional costumes, local crafts, ceramics, wood carvings and Europe's largest collection of barrel organs. We then journey on to Freiburg, a medieval city overlooked by castle ruins and where you will find the famous 'Red Bear'.

Day 7

We leave the Black Forest and head to the historical spa-town of Baden-Baden. This beautiful city boasts a relaxed atmosphere and a sea of greenery in its parks and gardens. Later, we continue to Forbach for our final nights stay.

Day 8

After a leisurely breakfast we return to Calais for our ferry to Dover then its homeward bound.
