This morning we follow the path of Hadrian's Wall to Chollerford where we include a guided tour of the Roman Fort of Chester's, the finest example of a Roman Cavalry Fort in Britain with the best surviving remains of a Roman Military Bath House. Later, we continue to Kielder Water visiting the Tower Knowe Visitor Centre where you can obtain refreshments, take a stroll by the lake, learn the history of the lake, or sit and enjoy the views.
Today we have an excursion taking us south via Castle Carrock through lovely countryside, with the Pennine Hills on our left, and the Eden Valley to the right, as we head south towards Penrith as we make our way to visit delightful Hutton-in-the-Forest. This is an ancient house dating back several centuries and offering a rich variety of architecture, furnishings and a beautiful garden. Later, we climb the spectacular Hartside Pass, on the way to Alston, with its cobbled main street and 17th century buildings. Here, we enjoy a ride on the South Tynedale Railway, Britain's highest narrow gauge line.
A final farewell to our hotel before we make our way south. We stop for lunch en-route, arriving home in the early evening.
