Our journey takes us north to Harrogate, with a stop for lunch en-route.
We make our way to Leyburn and visit the Little Chocolate Shop where you can see all kinds of delicious chocolates being made. We continue through Wensleydale to Hawes, where we visit the 'Cheese Experience' at the Wensleydale Creamery, home of Yorkshire's most famous cheese. Leaving Hawes we travel via Aysgarth and Bishopdale, over the hills to Upper Wharfdale and Grassington.
A free morning to explore Harrogate. With its huge open spaces, broad tree-lined boulevards, antique shops and elegant buildings, Harrogate also boasts the world famous Betty's Tearooms, founded in 1919 by a Swiss Confectioner. In the afternoon we drive to Ripon, with its magnificent Cathedral before continuing to Masham, where we feature a visit to the award winning Black Sheep Brewery.
Our first stop this morning is the small village of Kilburn - home of Mousey Thompson, the famous woodworker renowned for his little mouse carvings that adorn his hand carved furniture. We continue via Byland Abbey and Ampleforth to Helmsley, where we take a break and have time to obtain lunch. Leaving Helmsley we make for Thirsk and visit the 'World of James Herriot' for a fascinating tour which reveals many of the props and three studio sets as featured in the long running television series based on the life and times of local vet Alf Wright.
Departing after breakfast we visit Harewood House, a stunning 18th century property with lavish interiors, extravagant furnishings and marvellous examples of fine art. We also see life below stairs in the popular old kitchen, scullery and still room. There is time for lunch before we return home to the Midlands.
