Sandwiched between Paris and the Nord Pas-de-Calais Region, Picardy stretches from the Channel coast, just south of Boulogne, towards the outskirts of Paris. Being so close to the Channel Ports, this largely rural area can provide visitors with a taste of real France.

We drive to Dover for our channel crossing to Calais. We then continue south to our hotel for our 2 night stay.
This morning we head for Chateau du Compiegne - As regal and as romantic as can be, this Royal palace was built by Louis XV and Louis XVI and later served as a residence for Napoleon I and Napoleon III. Explore the lavish rooms including Empress Marie Louise's chamber with its famous view along the Percée des Beaux-Monts. The castle is also home to two other museums: the Musée de l'Impératrice, with artworks and objects relating to the Second Empire, and the Musée National de la Voiture et du Tourisme, with a magnificent array of horse-drawn vehicles, bicycles and early automobiles. Later we continue to the Armistice Clearing, where the 1918 and 1940 armistices were signed in Compiegne. The Armistice Museum features a life size replica of the famous railway carriage in which the Germans signed their surrender on 11th November 1918 and where the French signed their surrender to Germany on 22 June 1940.
After breakfast we will make the short journey to The Chateau of Chantilly. The Château is one of the finest jewels in the crown of France's cultural heritage. Rebuilt in the 19th century; the chateau houses a museum, and is set in fine gardens and parkland that includes a famous racecourse. Departing early afternoon, we retrace our steps to Calais and our journey homeward.
