We travel north via Ashbourne through the beautiful Derbyshire countryside to Buxton. Famous for being the highest market town in England at over 1,000 ft above sea level, Buxton has been a popular resort for centuries with stunning scenery, magnificent architecture and world famous spa waters that flow from St Anne's Well in front of the Crescent. Free time to explore the shops, wander through the Pavilion Gardens and have lunch at leisure before continuing on to our hotel for our
Today we visit the Macclesfield Silk Museum and Paradise Mill. Set in 35 acres of gardens and home to the famous Lovell Telescope. You have the opportunity to explore the Planet and Space Exhibitions and wander the grounds which host an amazing variety of over 2000 trees from all over the world, including two National Collections - The Sorbus & the Malus, and a 'Galaxy Garden' designed by Chris Beardshaw.
Driving over Snake Pass, we visit the Fairholmes Visitor Centre situated by Derwent Reservoirs. We continue along the shores of Ladybower Reservoir, used by the RAF's Dambusters to practice their low level flying techniques during 1943 to Chatsworth House - a treasure trove of history and artifacts in the beautiful surroundings of the Peak District.
This morning we visit the Lion Salt Works, a new museum housed within a restored historic open-pan salt making site. At lunchtime we continue to the historic Anderton Boat Lift which allows boats to transfer between the River Weaver and the Trent & Mersey Canal high above.
Our journey home takes us to lovely Bakewell - a lovely market town located on the River Wye, here we can enjoy free time, wander around the attractive courtyards, individual shops and sample the town's famous traditional Bakewell Pudding.
