We commence with a visit to Fyvie Castle (NTS). This once royal stronghold dates back to the 13th century and has a fine collection of arms and armour as well as 17th century tapestries. We return via Pitmedden Gardens (NTS) which features over 5 miles of box hedging and some 40,000 plants bursting with summer colour.
A local coach transfers us into Aberdeen for a harbour cruise, followed by free time in the 'Granite City' - spend time in the historic merchant quarter, or relax in one of the many parks and award-winning gardens.
A leisurely journey through Royal Deeside to Ballater, with time to explore this pretty Deeside village. We continue to Crathie Church, to see where the Royal Family worship before visiting Balmoral Castle, with time to visit the gardens, gift shop and exhibitions.
Departing Aberdeen we visit Scone Palace, where the Kings of Scotland were once crowned. Today, the Palace houses an amazing collection of antiques, paintings and rare artefacts and is regarded as one of Scotland's finest historic houses. We continue in the afternoon to Inveraray and our 3-night stay.
A scenic drive along the shores of lovely Loch Fyne to Lochgilphread then north through the Glen of Kilmartin, one of Europe's richest areas for prehistoric remains. We continue via the western coastline to Oban, before returning via the Pass of Brander.
We visit Inveraray Castle, the ancestral seat of the Dukes of Argyll, whose family have resided in Inveraray since the early 15th century, with its fairytale facade and equally enchanting interiors. During the afternoon, free time to explore Inveraray.
