We travel north, passing Inverness, continuing to Ullapool for our overnight stay.
We take the morning ferry from Ullapool to Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis and our 2 night stay.
Today we explore the Island of Lewis on a guided tour, including Caroloway Broch and Butt of Lewis. Lewis is mainly flat with numerous lochs, whereas Harris is mountainous, with some of the oldest rocks known to man and stunning white, sandy beaches such as at Seilabost and Horgabost.
Seven islands in one day! We leave Stornoway and travel south to Leverburgh, leaving the Isle of Harris to make the hour long ferry crossing to the Isle of Bernaray, we then drive through the Isle's of North Uist, Benbecula and South Uist with boggy moors and craggy hills to the east and a sandy coastline and green pastures to the west. Then to Eriskay, an island of just 4 square miles, where we catch our ferry to Barra Island, arriving for our 2 night stay.
The stunning Isle of Barra has miles of empty, golden beaches, rugged terrain and wild flowers and is best known from the film 'Whisky Galore' and for having a beach as an airport! A guided tour and local coach operator helps us to make the most of our stay.
We travel to the port of Castlebay, where we take our ferry to Oban. Travelling east through a landscape of beautiful lochs and glens, before reaching Glasgow for our final night.
We commence our journey homeward through the Scottish Borders and Cumbria.
