Springtime in The Lake District, Skiddaw Hotel

Monday

We depart from Henley and journey north to Kendal ‘Gateway to the Lakes’ for lunch then onto your hotel in Keswick, time to relax before dinner.

Tuesday

This morning we visit Grasmere, famous for its gingerbread and of course it was once the home of the famous poet William Wordsworth. After time for lunch we make the short journey to visit Rydal Mount and Gardens, home to Wordsworth for 37 years. Wordsworth was a keen landscape gardener and the 4-acre garden remains very much as he designed it, the house which now belongs to descendants of Wordsworth contains portraits, personal possessions and first editions of the poet’s work.

Wednesday

A morning visit to Cockermouth where entrance to Wordsworth’s House is included. Free time in the afternoon to explore Keswick.

Thursday

After breakfast we depart for Bowness on Windermere, travelling through beautiful scenery via Ullswater Lake and over Kirkstone Pass before descending to Lake Windermere. Bowness is a popular tourist town on the shore of Lake Windermere. Here we have time at leisure where you could take time to visit the World of Beatrix Potter (admission not included) or perhaps have refreshments in one of the towns many tea rooms.

Friday

Departing Keswick we commence our journey home.
