Monday

Departing during the morning we travel outward via the British Ironwork Centre at Oswestry before arriving at our hotel in the Vale of Llangollen during the afternoon.

Tuesday

Today we visit Erddig (NT) - an atmospheric early 18th-century house that reflects the ‘upstairs, downstairs’ life of a gentry’s family, giving a fascinating insight into its relationship with its servants. The downstairs rooms are home to a unique collection of servants’ portraits, whilst upstairs there is a wealth of important furniture, textiles and wallpaper. Next, we visit Chirk Castle (NT) – a 700-year-fortress overlooking the Rivers Dee and Ceiriog. The medieval dungeons and tower are relics of more spartan times, while the Long Gallery and State Rooms are sumptuous by comparison. Outside, the award-winning gardens contain clipped yews, herbaceous borders, shrub and rock gardens.

Wednesday

Travelling via Betws-y-Coed we visit magnificent Penrhyn Castle (NT) - Built on a massive scale over a period of 13 years and offers outstanding views of Snowdonia. There is so much to see here, from the unique architecture, opulent interiors, outstanding collection of paintings, restored Victorian kitchens and a railway museum. Later we drive over the Menai Straits to the Isle of Anglesey to Llanfair PG or better known as... LLANFAIRPWLLGWYNGYLLGOGERYCHWYRNDROBWILLANTYSILIOGOGOGOCH - go on, we dare you to pronounce it!

Thursday

We drive to Corwen, where we visit the 17th century Rug Chapel, whose plain exterior hides many riches within. Next, we enjoy a scenic drive to Llanuwchllyn for a delightful 9-mile return journey on the narrow-gauge Bala Lake Railway in the beautiful Snowdonia National Park. Bala is the largest natural lake in Wales where we will see the magnificent mountain vistas across the lake, dominated by Arenig Fawr and the Aran Mountains.

Friday

Leaving our hotel after breakfast we commence our journey homeward.
