Thriplow is a quiet village eight miles south of Cambridge which, since 1969, has celebrated its own Daffodil Weekend drawing crowds from far and wide. This unique event raises money for local charities and provides the visitor with plenty of activities and attractions - so take your choice.

Thriplow Overview!

Wander at your leisure, walk round the lanes and footpaths, visit the open gardens & the craft and home-produce stall. Be transported by the melodious music of organ and violin recitals, jazz music, morris dancers and buskers. Enjoy the Flower Festival in the village church, working smithy or sheep dogs working. Take a dray ride with the Heavy Horses through the village. Refreshments available include pub food, barbecue, hog roast and much much more... and, hopefully, thousands of beautiful daffodils!

Friday

We drive to the exquisite city of Ely a small fenland market town dominated by its magnificent cathedral and boasting a beautiful waterside area. After lunch, we continue to St. Ives in Cambridgeshire, a pleasant little English market town on the River Great Ouse, before arriving at our hotel for our 3-night stay.

Saturday

A morning excursion into Cambridge where we meet our Blue Badge Guide for an informative tour of Cambridge and its impressive University buildings. Then we make the short drive to Thriplow where we include your admission into the village where we are free to explore and enjoy the fun-filled Daffodil Weekend festival.

Sunday

We visit the National Stud at Newmarket where we include a guided tour. Originally opened to the public in the mid 1970’s, it is still the only commercial stud farm in the UK allowing people the chance to see behind the scenes. Travelling by coach and on foot, this tour will explore the beautiful 500-acre site and will tell the history and purpose of The National Stud as a commercial thoroughbred breeding operation.

Monday

This morning we visit Peterborough. The modern-day city hides a wealth of history just waiting to be uncovered. Its 12th century Cathedral has the largest surviving example of a painted wooden ceiling from the Middle Ages. Later, we visit the historic Stamford – a town captured in time by its conservation status and retains much of its old-world charm and prosperity. It is idyllic enough to have formed the backdrop for television costume dramas such as Middlemarch and the 2005 film Pride and Prejudice. We return home during the early evening.
