Monday
We travel north, making a convenient stop for lunch en-route, arriving in Harrogate during the afternoon.
Tuesday
Celebrate Yorkshire's most famous vet as we pay a morning visit to the World of James Herriot Museum, the fully restored site of his original 1940s home and veterinary practice (known in his books as Skeldale House) in Thirsk. Then sit back and enjoy the views as we drive through the Yorkshire Dales, via Pateley Bridge to Grassington, the beautiful Dales village that was transformed into Darrowby during the making of the recent Channel 5 series.
Wednesday
This morning we travel to the ancient and historic city of Durham, acclaimed as a World Heritage Site and dominated by its magnificent Cathedral and Norman Castle, high above the River Wear. We have chance to explore and to visit the Cathedral. The great loop of the River Wear's wooded gorge provides a natural backdrop to this historic city.
Thursday
At leisure in Harrogate but with the option to join us on our morning excursion to nearby RHS Harlow Carr Gardens. One of Yorkshire's most innovative gardens. The garden has many seasonal highlights including a streamside garden and extensive kitchen garden. On arrival enjoy a guided tour of the gardens plus an afternoon cream tea.
Friday
Our journey home includes a visit to magnificent Harewood House, one of the Treasure Houses of Great Britain. Built in the 18th century, Harewood has a fabulous art collection, an impressive display of Chippendale furniture and a rare Bird Garden all set amongst an exquisite landscape.
The impressive 300 years old Crown Hotel stands in Harrogates Montpellier Quarter just a few minutes walk from the major attractions, including the picturesque town centre with its fascinating antique shops, richly historic Victorian arcades, and interesting boutique shops. All bedrooms are en-suite and have television, radio, telephone, 24-hour room service, hairdryer and tea/coffee making facilities. Hotel has a lift.
