Wednesday
This morning we drive via the Margraten US War Cemetery en-route to Vaalserberg, the highest point in mainland Netherlands. Here we find the famous Three-Country point, where Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium meet – the perfect opportunity for a photo or two! We continue to Aachen city centre - a German spa city full of history. Do take time to visit the impressive Aachen Cathedral that was founded in around 800AD and holds the title for being the first UNESCO World Heritage Site in Germany.
Thursday
This morning we experience a journey on the South Limburg Steam Railway. Known referred to as the “Million Line”, a nickname it inherited due to the huge cost of its construction. On our nostalgic journey we take in the picturesque rolling South Limburg hills, a truly enchanting landscape. Afterwards, we return to Valkenburg where we are free to relax and explore the town’s quaint cobbled streets and pretty buildings. Known locally as ‘Marlstone Town’, it is famous for its castle and the elaborate system of Roman caves and tunnels that run beneath the town.
