Friday
A day at leisure in the beautiful medieval City of Bruges. With its many fine old buildings, Bruges is often referred to as the ‘Venice of the North’. By the Burg main square, traditions are still alive with lace shops and market stalls, surrounded by picturesque medieval buildings with pretty gables. The more energetic can tackle the 370 steps of the 13th century Belfry of Bruges! Enjoy some free time or take a canal trip or visit the chocolate museum.
Saturday
This morning we drive to Brussels where we enjoy the ‘Carpet of Flowers’ in the Grand Place. Every two years the Belgians cover it with a huge flower display. The famous Flower Carpet covers 19,000 square feet and is a stunning sight in the August sunshine. We include entrance to the Town Hall balcony, so you can get an even better, panoramic view of this memorable sight. In the afternoon, we are at leisure in Brussels.
Sunday
Departing Bruges we visit the beautiful town of Ypres. See the market square, overlooked by the dominating medieval Cloth Hall with its impressive 70-metre-high Belfry, or perhaps visit the most important war memorial in Ypres, the Menin Gate. After lunch we return to Calais and our ferry crossing back to Dover, arriving home during the evening.
The Le Bois de Bruges Hotel was formally the Park Hotel and is located in the centre of medieval Bruges, next to t Zand Square and a 10-minute walk from the Market Square with the Belfry of Bruges, the Basilica of the Holy Blood and the shopping district.
