Thursday

Travelling north, we cross the border into Scotland and on to our hotel. Enjoy a pre-dinner drinks reception before a 4-course choice dinner as we settle in for our 5-night stay.

Friday

We head through the countryside, following the Solway Coast, passing the tiny villages of Kirkbean, Sandyhills and Barnbarroch en-route to Castle Douglas, an 18th century market town where you can lunch and time to relax. Afterwards, we head for Threave Garden & House, a garden for all seasons and a haven for wildlife. Take a stroll through the secret garden and walled garden with 19th-century Threave House as its backdrop.

Saturday

This morning we take the short ride into the historic border city of Carlisle where we spend the morning and have chance for lunch. The city has lots to offer, Carlisle Cathedral, Carlisle Castle, museums and an excellent pedestrianised centre for some retail therapy. This afternoon we take our seats for this year's Pantomime at the Sands Centre of Aladdin. We return to our hotel for dinner.

Sunday

A leisurely breakfast is followed by a traditional Christmas lunch including a glass of wine then it's time for the Queen's Speech. Tea/Coffee & Christmas cake. Buffet dinner during the evening.

Monday

This morning we visit Gretna Green 1754 where someone might be getting married!!! - As we experience a fun wedding re-enactment and discover the Gretna Green Story. We include a light lunch before visiting the Devil's Porridge Museum - a state of the art museum, where we will experience life in WWI trench and explore the factory to discover what life was like for the thousands of girls who worked in this munition's factory. The name is inspired by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, who visited the factory and witnessed the girls mixing the nitro-cotton by hand and commented that it was the 'devil's porridge'.

Tuesday

After breakfast we leave and head for home.
