With its lovely sweeping bay and miles of golden sandy beaches, it’s easy to see why Sandown is such a traditional holiday favourite. Retaining much of its Victorian atmosphere, the resort has a pier, seaside cafés, and lovely walks by the sea wall to neighbouring Shanklin and along the cliffs to Culver Down for panoramic views of the Channel.

Friday

We drive to Southampton for our ferry to the Isle of Wight. Upon arrival, we are greeted with tea/coffee and mince pies. After our evening dinner tonight, there is music in the ballroom for dancing or your listening pleasure.

Saturday

Breakfast is followed by a leisurely morning drive to Newport, the principal town of the Isle of Wight. We return via the quintessential English village of Godshill, with its charming thatched-roofed cottages and medieval church. A Light lunch is served in the Restaurant followed by tea, coffee & cakes in the lounge. Enjoy a pre-dinner glass of wine whilst listening to Christmas carols. Our candlelit dinner is followed by entertainment in the Ballroom.

Sunday

Breakfast and a relaxing Christmas morning, then join the hotel management for a glass of sparkling wine and a visit from ‘someone special’! Traditional Christmas lunch. Queen’s Speech in the lounge then enjoy tea/coffee followed by the hotel’s ‘bumper quiz’. Buffet supper in the restaurant is followed by the hotel’s evening entertainment.

Monday

An ideal way to unwind after Christmas Day with a drive to Ryde, the largest town on the Isle of Wight. Free time to explore and obtain lunch before enjoying a ‘Boxing Day Steam Special’ on the Isle of Wight Steam Railway. Settle back in beautifully restored Victorian and Edwardian carriages and enjoy a unique view of some of the Island’s unspoilt countryside (Mince pies and mulled wine included). Farewell dinner and entertainment with prize-giving for the quiz winners.

Tuesday

After breakfast we return to the mainland and homeward bound.

Mobility Grade: 3 – Hotel has a level sea front location with easy access to Sandown Pier. A few gentle steps at entrance. Incline to main town. A few steps within hotel but lift serves all floors.
