Norways Telemark region offers magnificent scenery with a high mountain plateau, deep valleys, forests, rivers and crystal-clear lakes and has a rich cultural heritage. Our hotel is in the lakeside hamlet of Vradal, a terrific base from which to explore the areas highlights to include The Telemark Canal, Hardangervidda Plateau and the WWII heavy water sabotage site at Vemork. The tour is rounded off with a visit to Oslo, Norways capital.

Day 1
A morning departure to Dover and our channel crossing to Calais. From here we drive to Holland and our overnight at the Postillion Hotel, Deventer (board includes 3 course buffet dinner & hot buffet breakfast).
Day 2
Travel across Germany and into Denmark for dinner and an overnight stay at the Scandic Kolding Hotel, near Kolding.
Day 3
An early departure from our hotel due to ferry timetables see us travel to Hirtshals on Denmark’s south coast. Here we board a fast-craft for the exciting journey across the Skagerrak Sea to Norway. Leave the port and immediately encounter fantastic Norwegian scenery during the onward journey to The Straand Hotel Vrådal, on the shore of Lake Nisser for our 5-night stay.
Day 4
A day at leisure in Vrådal. The hotel has great facilities including a large panoramic terrace, lounge, indoor swimming pool and a wonderful garden that sweeps down from the hotel to the lake shore and beach.
Day 5
A full day excursion featuring the magnificent Hardangervidda Plateau, home to Europe’s largest stock of reindeer. We include a visit to the fascinating World War II sabotage site at Vemork, now a museum, to learn about the partisan mission to destroy the Nazi’s efforts to create ‘the bomb’. Round off the day by crossing the Telemark canal before arriving back to the hotel.
Day 6
Today enjoy an excursion around the West Telemark region. Call into Dalen, starting point of the Telemark Canal, and continue to The West Telemark Museum. This is one of Norway’s largest open-air museums and also includes the 13th century Eidsborg Stave Church.
Day 7
We include a boat trip on the Telemark Canal, considered one of the World’s most beautiful waterways. We include a journey on one of the historic vessels between Kviteseid and Lunde. This cruise of around 3 hours provides an opportunity to relax and enjoy the wonderful views. En-route pass through lakes, narrow channels and 2 locks.
Day 8
Depart Vrådal and travel east with a short photo stop at Heddal, Norway’s largest Stave Church. Continue to Oslo, Norway’s charming maritime capital. It offers a unique Scandinavian atmosphere and a beautiful city centre with many green spaces as well as wide range of monuments and historic buildings. Late afternoon, leave Oslo and travel south to the Thon Hotel at Horten for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 9
An early departure from our hotel due to ferry timetables see us travel by fast-craft ferry crossing to Denmark. Proceed to the Hamburg area for dinner and an overnight stay at the Best Western Prisma Hotel, Neumuenster.
Day 10
Travel through Germany, into Holland and on to the North Sea coast for a relaxing overnight crossing from the Hook of Holland, Rotterdam to Hull (departs 8.30pm).
Day 11
Arrive back in the UK at 8.00am and then its homeward bound.
The Straand Hotel is located in Vradal village on the north shore of Lake Nisser in Norways Telemark region. The hotel has been owned and managed by the Straand family for 5 generations. It combines historic charm with great facilities to include a lakeside garden.
