via Ullswater Lake and over Kirkstone Pass before descending to Lake Windermere.
Here we board a boat for a scenic sightseeing cruise on stunning Lake Windermere.
On our return we will head back to our hotel via Coniston Water and Ambleside.
Tuesday
Today, we head off to the Western Lake District, where we board the
popular Ravenglass & Eskdale Steam Railway for a stunning seven-mile journey from
Ravenglass, the only coastal village in the Lake District National Park. The line travels
through glorious countryside with the Scafell Mountain Range in view.
From Ravenglass we drive to the impressive Muncaster Castle & Gardens. Set in 77
acres of tranquil gardens, the estate also has a Hawk & Owl Centre with daily flying
displays taking place on the Meadow.
Wednesday
This morning we visit Grasmere, famous for its gingerbread and of course
it was once the home of the famous poet William Wordsworth. On the outskirts of the
village, we step back in time as we visit the Wordsworth Museum & Dove Cottage.
Now re-opened after a multi-million-pound restoration project we get a feel for daily
life as the Wordsworth’s would have known and experience a humble home where
extraordinary writing and thinking took place.
