Monday

To Dover for the ferry to Calais then across Belgium and into Holland, arriving at our hotel in time for dinner.

Tuesday

Following breakfast we travel to the famous Keukenhof Gardens. We will spend the morning here, giving plenty of time for strolling at leisure through the gardens, greenhouses and set pieces. In the afternoon, there is free time to explore or maybe take a ride on one of the ‘whisper boats’, which are almost silent as they sail through the beautiful bulb landscape.

Wednesday

The ‘historic triangle’ of Enkhuizen, Medemblik and Hoorn is located just above Amsterdam. Here, we enjoy a steam boat ride around the Ijsselmeer coast to Medemblik (light refreshments - tea/coffee & Apple Pie included), before taking a fascinating ride by historical steam tram to Hoorn. We also visit the museum at Hoorn, to learn something of the history and development of the Dutch steam tram from 1879 to 1966.

Thursday

Today we take a fascinating visit through the colourful windmills of Zaanse Schans. Zaanse Schans is full of traditional green timbered houses and warehouses which perfectly embody the picture-perfect landscapes for which Holland is known. This is a free admission where we can discover local specialities including a cheese farm, wooden shoe workshops, pewter foundry and a bakery museum. (Other attractions may include a separate admission which is down to the individual’s discretion and payable direct on the day). Also, there is free time to discover the delightful coastal resort town of Volendam.

Friday

Leaving our hotel we make our way back to Calais and our ferry to Dover and home.

Van der Valk de Bilt-Utrecht is a 4-star hotel nearby the beautiful forests of Houdringse Bossen. The hotel rooms are well-appointed and have air conditioning. The restaurant serves lunch and dinner daily. The centre of Utrecht can be reached within 15 minutes. Hotel facilities include: Bar/lounge. Lift access to all floors.
