The Edinburgh Military Tattoo is a spectacle of music, light and precision movement performed by the massed pipes and drums of the Scottish Regiments and military units from all over the world. Steep rocks form a dramatic backdrop to the Tattoo’s Castle setting and, when subtle lighting picks out the lone piper playing a lament from the ramparts, few in the audience fail to be moved by the atmosphere.

NB Access to the Tattoo is via a steep gradient, which may be a problem for people with walking difficulties.

Sunday

An unhurried drive north with a convenient lunch stop en-route.

Monday

On today’s excursion we delve into the past and retrace the steps of the age-old conflict between Scotland and England. We visit imposing Stirling Castle, built on the top of a cliff, it offers spectacular views of the surrounding area. We pass the National Wallace Monument as we double-back to Bannockburn where we include entrance to the Bannockburn Heritage Centre.

Tuesday

After a relaxing morning in our hotel, we make our way to Edinburgh to enjoy a guided tour of the city and see some of the many famous sights. Enjoy dinner in the heart of Edinburgh before we visit the renowned spectacle of the Edinburgh Military Tattoo.

Wednesday

The university town of St Andrews and the East Fife fishing villages are our destinations today. Discover the cathedral and castle ruins before we continue to Crail and Anstruther, before returning via the delightfully named Pittenweem and St Monans.

Thursday

We return home with a convenient lunch stop en-route.
