Departing during the morning we arrive at our hotel in the Vale of Llangollen during the afternoon.
After breakfast we enjoy a return heritage train ride on the Llangollen Railway. Primarily steam hauled, our journey takes us through 7 ½ miles of scenic countryside as we follow the River Dee to the village of Carrog. Here, we can enjoy spectacular views over the River Dee and the Berwyn mountain range.
This morning we visit the Llangollen Motor Museum, where we meet the town's star car "Humphrey", a 1962 Triumph TR4, together with countless other charming vintage vehicles. In the afternoon, we enjoy a very relaxing horse-drawn boat trip to see the Chain Bridge across the River Dee and view the manmade Horseshoe Falls, a marvel created by Thomas Telford, whilst gliding along possibly the most beautiful canal you will ever experience.
Today we travel to the mighty medieval fortress of Chirk Castle (NT). Here, we discover 400 years of changing tastes and fashions in its lavishly furnished rooms. Built on an outcrop above the meeting point of the River Dee and Ceiriog, this imposing castle was an ominous statement of English intent in the Welsh Marches. After exploring the castle there's time to wander through over 5-acres of stunning gardens with glorious views out over the Cheshire and Salop plains.
Leaving our hotel after breakfast we commence our journey homeward.
