Thursday

We drive to Dover and our ferry crossing to Calais. We visit the Canadian Memorial and preserved trench lines at Vimy Ridge. The Vimy Memorial overlooks the Douai Plain and is dedicated to all the Canadians who served their country in battle, particularly the 60,000 who gave their lives in France. We also visit the preserved tunnels, where you are escorted by Canadian Guides.

Friday

We meet our hotel owner, Philippe Gorconosky MBE, who is also a keen historian, who will give us an overview of the Battle of Cambrai, when on the 20th November 1917 over 370 British Tanks entered into the world's first mass tank battle. We'll meet "Deborah" a Mk4 Female tank which he unearthed after years of research. Deborah was subsequently excavated and is now in a semi-preserved state at Flequieres. We visit the Cambrai Memorial before continuing in the afternoon to Arras. Here, we visit the Faubourg d'Amiens British Cemetery & Memorial, which contains 2,647 British graves and a memorial wall of almost 36,000 men who died on the Arras front and have no known grave before continuing to explore the Underground Tunnels at Carriere Wellington, Arras - 'a city beneath a city'.

After lunch we continue via Serre Road to the Newfoundland Memorial Park at Beaumont Hamel, returning via Pozieres back to our hotel.
Sunday?Departing after breakfast we drive to the Opal Coast where we call at Étaples Military Cemetery, the largest CWGC in France with over 11,500 graves. We continue to Boulogne Old Town before returning to Calais and our ferry homeward.
