Step back into Ireland's past today as we visit Trim Castle, the largest Anglo-Norman castle in Ireland. In Medieval times, Trim Castle stood like an imposing stone sentinel and powerful symbol of Norman strength, so it's no wonder that the makers of the movie 'Braveheart' chose Trim as the shooting location for their epic thriller. (Access for visitors with disabilities is very restricted, as some of the stairs in the keep are very steep and narrow. The keep is not accessible for visitors with disabilities and there is restricted access to the grounds only). Later, we continue to the Boyne Valley Battle Site, where a brutal encounter between King James II and William of Orange in 1690 forged the country's future.
Head into Dublin for a one hour 'Dublin Discovery' boat cruise departing from North Quay. Free time in the afternoon for sightseeing or shopping before returning back to our hotel.
Take a trip to Co. Kildare today for a guided tour of the Irish National Stud, home to some of Ireland's most revered thoroughbreds. Adjacent to the Stud are the renowned Japanese Gardens. Our visit also includes the Horse Museum and St Fiachra's Garden - dedicated to the patron saint of gardeners!
Breakfast today is included on board our return Stena Line sailing to Holyhead then we continue homeward.
