Travelling north we visit Bramham Park, home to the Lane Fox family for 300 years. Dating from 1698, it was built in a Tuscan villas style and its 66 acres of pleasing grounds in the style of 'Le Notre' - designer of the gardens at Versailles, with green vistas, temples and the gleam of distant water. From here it is a short distance to our hotel and our 4-night stay.

The palatial stately home of Castle Howard has been nestling below the Howardian Hills for over 300 years. The magnificent mansion is set in a dramatic location between two lakes, surrounded by beautiful gardens. We continue to Yorkshire Lavender, where we discover 60 acres of spectacular lavender fields offering stunning views of the North Yorkshire landscape.

We include an Open-Top Bus Tour of this stunning city, followed by free time to explore some of the other interesting sites. Perhaps take a boat trip on the River Ouse, stroll down Viking streets at the Jorvik Centre, take a walk on the famous city walls, explore the "Shambles" with its ancient leaning buildings, see the excellent Castle Museum with its Victorian street or visit the superb Railway Museum.

We visit the acclaimed World of James Herriot Centre at Thirsk before driving to Ampleforth Abbey, home to the largest community of Benedictine monks in the country and set in 2000 acres, in an area of outstanding natural beauty. On our guided tour we will discover a working monastery that also includes the historic orchards and a cider mill (Afternoon tea & cake included).

We commence our journey home, arriving back during the afternoon.
