60009 Union of South Africa is an LNER Class A4 steam locomotive built in Doncaster in 1937. Sister locomotive of 'Mallard', holder of the world speed record for a steam locomotion, 'Union' is one of six surviving Gresley A4s, and is currently operational and mainline certified until April 2019 when she will be permanently withdrawn.

Sunday

Depart Henley at 07.00 am and journey north to Grosmont for our 12.40pm return train ride along the NYMR to Pickering. Upon our return we drive to York for dinner and overnight accommodation at the 4-Star Mercure York Fairfield Manor Hotel. Set in beautiful grounds, Fairfield Manor Hotel blends modern amenities with old-world style in an 18th-century Georgian manor house.

Monday

After breakfast you have the option of free time in York or join us as we visit the Railway Museum (formerly the National Railway Museum). Forming part of the British Science Museum Group of National Museums, it tells the story of rail transport in Britain and its impact on society.
