During the Second World War Lincolnshire became ‘Bomber Country’, home to many Lancaster squadrons. Almost half Bomber Command’s 19 Victoria Crosses honoured airmen flying from Lincolnshire, including Wing Commander Guy Gibson of 617 Squadron, the Dam Busters. By 1945 there were 49 airfields, more than any other county. We have inclusions to help you learn more about Bomber Command and the Aviation Heritage in Lincolnshire.

Sunday

We journey to Belton House (NT),
one of the finest restoration houses in the country and featured in BBC's Jane Eyre, Pride and Prejudice and Tom Jones. Built between
1685-1688 with stunning interiors, it also houses an important collection of paintings, furniture, tapestries and silverware. Later, we continue to our hotel at Louth for our 4-night stay.

Monday

This morning we travel to the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre at East Kirkby. Experience the sights, sounds, smells and atmosphere of a bomber airfield. The only place in the country to see a Lancaster Bomber on an original wartime airfield. Next, we visit RAF Coningsby, and The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Visitor Centre, for a guided tour. We continue to the charming village of Woodall Spa, where we can find the magnificent memorial to the 'Dambusters' 617 Squadron before visiting Petwood House, home to the Dambusters for a talk from a local expert.

Tuesday

We make our way to the new International Bomber Command Centre, located on the outskirts of Lincoln and set within 10 acres of landscaped 'Peace Gardens'. Immerse yourself in the interactive exhibition which tells the stories of those who served, supported and suffered during the bombing campaigns of World War II. See the Walls of Names, Ribbon of Remembrance and the Spire Memorial, the UK's tallest war memorial and once the sighting point for crews based in the area. A guide will accompany this visit. Later, enjoy time at leisure in the cathedral city of Lincoln.

Wednesday

A day to explore Lincolnshire's pretty coastline. Places such as Skegness, Mablethorpe and Cleethorpes are classic holiday destinations but this area is also famed for its nature and birdlife.

Thursday

We bid a fond farewell to Lincolnshire as we commence our journey home.
