Tuesday
This morning we make our way to the pretty town of Rochester, the childhood home of the great author Charles Dickens’ who often referred to it in his Victorian novels. The stunning cathedral founded in 604AD makes it England’s second oldest. The Castle, built on the highest point of the Roman city walls, offers splendid views from the top of one of England’s tallest keeps. After lunch, we return via a scenic coach tour of Kent’s coast via Margate.
Wednesday
After an early breakfast, this morning we make our way to the delightful town of Bruges, via Eurotunnel. Affectionately known as the “Venice of the North” its winding canals and picture postcard bridges create a beautiful setting for this historic city with its World UNESCO heritage with beautiful architecture, magnificent churches and lovely public squares.
Thursday
After breakfast we make our way to Canterbury, with its quaint cobbled lanes, timber-framed buildings and medieval city walls. It is also home to the oldest cathedral in England, dating back to Norman times. It features awe-inspiring architecture and contains one of England’s largest collections of early medieval stained glass. After lunch we continue to Samphire Hoe Nature Reserve, England’s newest piece of land, made from chalk marl, excavated from the Channel Tunnel. It has quickly become one of the world’s rarest habitats – chalk grassland and a haven for wildlife. Next, we pause at the Battle of Britain Memorial, in Capel-le-Ferne - a poignant tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of those who served their country in WWII’s battle of the skies.
