Day One

Departing Henley early morning, we journey to Dover, for our ferry crossing to Calais. We then journey to Reims for our first overnight stop at Mercure Reims Parc Des Expositions Hotel.

Day Two

We journey through France to our second overnight stop, Movenpick Lausanne Hotel, located on the edge of Lake Geneva.

Day Three

We journey through Switzerland, enjoying incredible views of the Alps along the way, before arriving in Italy and the south-west area of Lake Garda. Here we check in to our base for the next five nights, the Splendid Sole hotel.

Day Four

Today our excursion takes us into the lovely rolling hills just behind the lake, an area closely linked to the Italian wars of independence during the 1850s and 1860s. With a half-day step-on guide, we visit the hilltop town of Solferino, where we see its ossuary and the monument commemorating the creation of the Red Cross. From here, we continue to Trattoria da Arturo, where a leisurely Italian lunch with plenty of wine awaits - time to relax and enjoy la dolce vita!

Day Five

We enjoy a scenic drive today, hugging the coastline via San Felice and along the west coast to the elegant resort of Gargnano. We have free time for a coffee and a stroll around this picturesque lakeside town which boasts hidden harbours and boutiques selling local delicacies. A short drive from here transports us into another world - that of the Italian aristocrats - as we embark on a private guided tour of Villa Bettoni and its Italianate gardens. We then enjoy free time for lunch in the beautiful town of Salò, which boasts the longest pedestrianised promenade on the entire lake.

Day Six

We spend today at leisure. We can relax in our hotel by the pool or take a stroll into the pretty centre of Montinelle, where we can enjoy a drink whilst admiring the fabulous views.

Day Seven

Today we head west to the beautiful hilltop city of Bergamo. Reached by funicular, its medieval walled upper town is the setting for our one-hour guided walking tour, before free time to browse the shops and enjoy local fare in one of the many superb eateries. In the afternoon, we continue towards Lake Iseo and the wine-growing Franciacorta region, where we visit the family-run Cascina Carretto vineyard for a tour and tasting of local wines.

Day Eight

We begin our journey home, heading back to the Movenpick Hotel Lausanne for our first overnight stop on the return journey.

Day Nine

Journeying back through France, we return to Mercure Reims Parc Des Expositions Hotel for another overnight stop.

Day Ten

After breakfast, we head to Calais for our ferry crossing over the channel, returning home in the evening.

The 4 star Splendid Sole is perfectly located for exploring the south west area of Lake Garda and is within easy walking distance of a number of cafés, restaurants and gelaterias, with some affording wonderful views. The hotel’s bedrooms feature modern, neutral décor and furnishings, and offer a hairdryer, WiFi, TV, safe, minibar and air-conditioning. Food served in the restaurant is typically Italian in style and guests can also enjoy a pre-dinner drink at the bar. Leisure facilities include indoor and outdoor swimming pools.
