Day One: Arrival

We journey north to Cumbria arriving late afternoon at Crown at Wetheral for our 4-night stay.

Day Two

We travel to Ravenglass and enjoy a return journey on the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway to Dalegarth, taking in stunning views of the fells. Back in Ravenglass, we visit historic Muncaster Castle & Gardens, still family-owned and beautifully set in the Western Lake District.

Day Three

We visit Lowther Castle and Gardens, beginning with a short introductory talk before exploring at leisure. Once abandoned, the gardens are now a fascinating restoration project. In the afternoon, we cruise Ullswater from Pooley Bridge to Glenridding aboard a heritage steamer.

Day Four

This morning is free to explore Keswick, nestled between Skiddaw Mountain and Derwentwater. In the afternoon, we enjoy afternoon tea at Bassenthwaite Lake Station, a restored railway station with a replica steam train and Art Deco carriage café, opposite Dubwath Silver Meadows nature reserve.

Day Five

Homeward Bound.

The Crown at Wetheral

The iconic Crown Hotel in Wetheral is the perfect venue for a relaxing escape as it is perfectly situated in the village of Wetheral, with the River Eden, the abbey and church ruins a short walk away. Every room includes tea/coffee making facilities, TV, WiFi and hairdryer. The Conservatory Restaurant with its elegant decor and large windows overlook the picturesque gardens, whilst Walton’s Bar and Eatery – established in 1838 – and the hotel also boasts an indoor pool, steam room, sauna and jacuzzi. This hotel does not lift.
