This enchanting holiday balances the Lakes’ distinct heritage, flavours and scenery. Stay at the Inn on the Lake, an award winning 4-star hotel set in 15 acres of lawns sweeping to the shores of Lake Ullswater – one of the most spectacular settings of the Lake District. Visit Dalemain Mansion, a Grade I listed estate with elegant Georgian interiors, award-winning gardens and a talk on its celebrated marmalade. In Grasmere, explore the world-famous gingerbread shop, delighting visitors since 1854 with handmade gingerbread made to the original recipe and method, with a costumed guide bringing the story to life.

Day One: Arrival

Departing Henley in the morning, we head to Cumbria with a lunch stop en-route, before checking in to our hotel for the next 4 nights, taking in one of the most spectacular settings in the Lake District.

Day Two

In the morning, we head to Dalemain Mansion & Historic Gardens, a Grade I listed country house and UNESCO World Heritage Site, nestled along the banks of the River Eamont. The formal gardens have previously won the "Historic Houses Garden of the Year Award". We receive a welcome on arrival, followed by a guided tour. In the afternoon, we head to the historic market town of Penrith for free time.

Day Three

We spend the day at leisure in the lovely market town of Keswick nestled between the majestic Skiddaw Mountain and the serene lake of Derwentwater.

Day Four

This morning, we visit Grasmere, famous for its gingerbread and of course it was once the home of the famous poet William Wordsworth. We head to the Grasemere Gingerbread Shop, with an included costumed talk about the entrepreneurial life of Sarah Nelson, inventor of 'The Best Gingerbread in the World'. Savour a freshly baked piece of Grasmere Gingerbread, still made to the Victorian recipe and method, and an oatcake spread with delicious hand-made Cumberland Rum Butter, along with a tea or coffee included with the charming talk. The rest of the day is yours at leisure in Grasemere.

Day Five

After breakfast, we depart home, with fond memories of our Lake District holiday.
