Coach excursion & entrance to York Minster plus a little free time in York.

Sunday

We travel north to historic Chester. Free time at leisure to explore the unique ‘Rows’ of two-tiered shops, take a stroll around the City Walls before checking into the 4* Grosvenor Pulford Hotel for our 2-night stay. Dinner tonight will be taken in a hotel restaurant.

Monday

We drive to Chester Railway Station, where we join the luxurious Saphos Classic Steam hauled train for a day trip to York.

On-board Saphos our Train, the Pullman Dining carriage, evoking elegance of a bygone era. Unravel the allure of a bygone era on a once-in-a-lifetime journey from Chester to York, steeped in elegance, sophistication, and unbridled glamour aboard the Saphos, one of Britain’s most luxurious trains, as seen on Channel 4. Settle into meticulously restored 1920s carriages hauled by an authentic steam locomotive, where liveried stewards ensure every detail in an ambiance of pure opulence. Begin your journey with a sumptuous full English or fish breakfast with pastries, artfully crafted with attention to detail and savoured while the breathtaking landscapes glide by. Disembark in world-famous York, a city oozing with charm, where we include a visit to the historic and marvellous York Minster.

On our return journey we are served an exquisite five-course seasonal dinner accompanied by the Sommelier’s choice of a half-bottle of wine per person.

Upon our return to Chester our coach will be waiting to whisk us back to our hotel for our overnight stay.

Tuesday

Departing after breakfast we uncover the magnificent Tatton Park. Spanning over 1,000 acres, is Britain’s most complete historic estate. The centrepiece is the majestic Tatton Hall, an elegant neoclassical mansion, standing as a testament to the opulence of its former residents. Visitors are invited to wander through its lavishly furnished rooms, adorned with fine art and period décor, offering a glimpse into the lives of the highly influential Egerton family. Surrounding the hall lies the 50-acre Tatton Gardens, featuring meticulously landscaped formal gardens, tranquil lakes, vibrant floral displays that change with the seasons and the enchanting Japanese Garden, serving as inspiration for even the most casual gardener. We return home during the early afternoon.
