Sunday
We drive to the National Memorial Arboretum (NMA) - A national site of remembrance which honours the fallen and recognises the sacrifices made on our behalf. Set within its 150 acres, the Arboretum contains over 50,000 trees and adds more each year. There are over 150 memorials and plots for the armed forces, civilian organisations and voluntary bodies who have played a part in serving the country. A memorial service is held in the Chapel every day at 11.00am. We suggest anyone with mobility issues uses the Land Train to explore the site in full (Small supplementary charge payable on the day). We continue to our hotel for dinner, followed by our live evening's entertainment - A 1940's Themed Special Concert of Remembrance - with tributes to Glenn Miller, Joe Loss and Vera Lynn to name just a few. With unforgettable tunes like "The Dambusters" and flag waving to standards, such as "Land of Hope & Glory and "Rule Britannia" a great night is assured. There will also be prizes for the best dressed in 40s style.
Monday
Following breakfast we travel via Matlock to Bakewell - known for its unique and delicious pudding. Idyllically situated on the banks of the River Wye. Monday is market day, where the town bustles with a range of stalls. We continue to Buxton, one of the most popular destinations in the Peak District famous for its Opera House and Ornamental Gardens.
A modern eco-friendly hotel located in the heart of 330 acres of University Park. Contemporary bedrooms, finished to a superior standard. Bramleys Restaurant & Bar. Lift to all floors.
