Tuesday

- Today we follow the path of Hadrian's Wall. We take a short break at the 'The Sill' Landscape Discovery Centre before continuing to Hexham. The town is dominated by the Abbey overlooking the market square. Here we have time for lunch and chance to explore before we return by train to Carlisle along the Tyne Valley.

Wednesday

A free day to explore the historic border city of Carlisle. The city has lots to offer, Carlisle Cathedral, Carlisle Castle, museums and an excellent pedestrianised centre.

Thursday

This morning we travel into the Yorkshire Dales to Kirkby Lonsdale, before passing Ribblehead Viaduct, through charming Horton-in-Ribblesdale and on to Settle. In the afternoon we take in the most spectacular train journey on a main line railway in the whole of England - the famous Settle to Carlisle line.
