Monday

We journey north to Cumbria arriving late afternoon at Crown & Mitre Hotel for our 4-night stay.

Tuesday

We head to the picturesque Kielder Water and Forest Park. We take a break at the visitor centre before continuing to Hexham, dominated by the Abbey overlooking the market square. This afternoon we return along the path of Hadrian’s Wall, which stretches some 76 miles from the Tyne to the Solway.

Wednesday

This morning we board our service train in Carlisle for a scenic ride following the Cumbrian coastline through Maryport and Whitehaven to Ravenglass. Here we join the Ravenglass and Eskdale Steam Railway – that travels from the coast for seven miles through to the foothills of England's highest mountains.

Thursday

We travel into the Yorkshire Dales to the market town of Kirkby Lonsdale. We continue via the immense Ribblehead Viaduct, through charming Horton-in-Ribblesdale to Settle. In the afternoon we take in the most spectacular train journey on a main line railway in the whole of England - the famous Settle to Carlisle line.
