Lakeland Explorer - The Skiddaw Hotel

Sunday

We depart from Henley and journey north to Kendal 'Gateway to the Lakes' for lunch then onto your hotel in Keswick, time to relac before dinner.

Monday

This morning we visit Grasmere, famous for its gingerbread and of course it was once the home of the famous poet William Wordsworth. After time for lunch, we make the short journey to visit Rydal Mount and Gardens, home to Woodsworth for 37 years. Wordworth was a keen landscape gardener and the 4-acre garden remains very much as he designed it, the house which now belongs to descendants of Wordsworth contains portraits, personal possessions and first editions of the poets work.

Tuesday

A morning visit to Lowther Castle and Gardens, a magnificent Gothic ruin recently renovated from a derelict shell into an award-winning visitor experience. Our visit starts in the stunning courtyard, home to a cafe, shop and the Story of Lowther exhibition. The exhibition leads you into 130 acres of gardens, with vast lawns, rose garden and Lake District views. Free time in the afternoon to explore Keswick.

Wednesday

A lovely day sightseeing in the lakes - We travel to through beautiful scenary via Ullswater Lake and over Kirkstone Pass before descending to Lake Windermere. Here we board a boat for a 40-minute sightseeing cruise on stunning Lake Windermere to Lakeside. After a short time in Lakeside, you will take a train ride (usually steam, sometimes Diesel) on a short journey through the beautiful scenary of the Leven Valley to Haverthwaite. Here you will rejoin the coach and we will head back to our hotel via Coniston Water and Ambleside.

Thursday

Departing Keswick we commence our journey home.
