Once banned by King Henry VIII, who believed it distracted tradesmen from their work, lawn bowling now thrives as a sport steeped in tradition and camaraderie. An expert coach from St. Andrews Bowls Club hones your skills on their beautiful green lawn. Then, we enjoy a light lunch in a newly renovated clubhouse. For those not wishing to bowl, a walking tour of St Andrews is also offered as an alternative, before free time for all in St Andrews.
Tuesday
A Childhood home of HRH Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother, Glamis Castle is a 650-year-old fortress renowned for its distinct architecture and imposing majesty. We include a guided tour, time in Glamis village itself and also a tour and tasting at Gin Bothy, where every bottle of their fruit infused gin is poured by hand, using only locally sourced produce including fresh Scottish berries and rhubarb.
Wednesday
We head into the Highlands with a visit to Pitlochry, calling in also at the village of Grandtully for a tasting of Ian Burnett's indulgent chocolate. End the day with some free time in Dundee, a handsome city historically home of Beano and Dandy comic books.
Thursday
After breakfast we depart Dundee and make our way home.
