Brittany has a mix of spectacular coastline, historic towns and rambling countryside. It is a land rich in culture, tradition and history. Our base is in Concarneau, a charming town on the Finistere Coast. Our 3-star superior hotel has a wonderful location overlooking the beach and Concarneau Bay and close to the historic walled town and harbour. We also include 2 nights in Lisieux where we visit the Caen Memorial Museum and a guided tour of the Normandy Beaches.

Sunday

We drive to Dover for the short Channel crossing to Calais. Upon arrival, we proceed to Rouen for our overnight stay at the Mercure Rouen Val de Reuil. (Dinner tonight will be taken in a local restaurant 50 metres from our hotel).

Monday

We leave Normandy and travel into Brittany stopping at Le Mont-Saint- Michel. Cross the causeway for time on this charming island. On then past Rennes to arrive in Concarneau for a 4-night stay.

Tuesday

A day at leisure in Concarneau. There is a wonderful beach opposite the hotel and the historic walled town can be reached on foot or via the tourist train. The town is packed with quaint streets, shops and pavement cafés

Wednesday

An excursion to Quimper, which lies on the River Odet. Not to be missed are the many timber framed buildings, the 13th century cathedral and Church of Locmaria. In the afternoon we include a rustic cider farm tour and tasting at nearby Ergué-Gabéric.

Thursday

A relaxing day touring the nearby coastal towns of the Finistère stopping in Bénodet, on the River Odet, Fouesnant, a charming and authentic Breton village and Pont Aven, an artist’s town where Paul Gauguin painted many famous canvases.

Friday

Depart Concarneau and travel back into Normandy for our 2-night stay at the Grand Hotel de l’Esperance, Lisieux.

Saturday

Today, we visit the Memorial Museum for Peace at Caen before our local guide takes us on a tour of the Normandy Beaches - See the Mulberry Harbour remains at Arromanches, then visit Omaha Beach and the American Cemetery and Memorial with the Monument to the Brave.

Sunday 2

Departing Lisieux, we return to Calais for our sailing to Dover, returning to Henley during the evening.

A charming family-run hotel within easy reach of the historic town and overlooking the Bay of Concarneau. The hotel has a bar and restaurant with panoramic sea views, in addition to a covered outdoor pool and terrace. The emphasis here is on warm hospitality and good Breton cuisine. 71 bedrooms with lift access to all floors and heated indoor pool.
