Day 1
We travel north, making a comfort stop en route, arriving at the Cave Castle Hotel at the foot of the Yorkshire Wolds in good time for tea and scones before settling to dinner.
Day 2
We join our coach for the scenic drive to York, one of those special cities. It is compact, offering lots of museums, independent shops aplenty, the lovely institution that is Betty's and an almost complete city wall. That's not all though, as the Minster is a sight to behold, one of this country's greatest ecclesiastical landmarks. You can also lose yourself in York's 'snickleways' the alleys in the old town, not least the beautiful cobbled 'Shambles'. We also include a river cruise on the Ouse to give you a different perspective from the water.
Day 3
Close to our hotel is the historic market town of Beverley, the county town of Yorkshire's East Riding and home to another spectacular Minster. It is well worth our half day visit.
Day 4
Today's excursion adds contrast to our stay we decided to venture to Bridlington the Yorkshire coast for some traditional, old-fashioned seaside fun. There are miles of sandy beach, a charming little road train leading from 'Brid' to Sewerby Park along the coast and the mighty Flamborough Head dominating from the north, now very much a haven for nature.
Day 5
It's time to return home with memories of our castle hotel stay.
Cave Castle Hotel is a 3 star hotel within a beautiful castle building. The site has a long history, though the current castle was built in 1875. Rooms are in the castle itself or adjoining building. There is lift access to most rooms. As well as its own golf course, the hotel has a renowned restaurant, bar, indoor swimming pool, sauna and steam room.
Mobility Grade 2 - Most rooms have bath with overhead shower and, being a historic building, there are steps in places, so possibly not best suited for guests with limited mobility. Most rooms are accessible from the lifts.
