Tuesday
A leisurely morning drive to Pitlochry where we have time to explore the many shops, cafes and restaurants in a
picture-perfect setting. We continue to Loch Tummel and the marvellous Queens View, viewpoint. Next, we visit Blair Castle,
home to the Dukes of Atholl for 19 generations, for a guided tour of the opulently decorated rooms displaying paintings,
furniture and artefacts gathered over the years.
Wednesday
We head to Blairgowrie, one of the largest towns in Perthshire, located on the banks of the River Ericht. We will
then move further north over the Spittal of Glenshee where you will pass through the Glenshee Ski area. We return to
Braemar, situated in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park. This lovely village is surrounded by stunning mountain scenery,
beautiful glens and home to the ancient Braemar Gathering tradition known colloquially as The Games that are traditionally
attended by the Royal Family.
Thursday
Our day starts with a visit to Scone Palace, crowning place of Scottish kings including Robert the Bruce and Charles
II and family home of the Earls of Mansfield. We have time to explore the palace
with its fine collections of furniture, porcelain, ivories, clocks, paintings and other
objets d'art. Afterwards, we return to the lovely village of Dunkeld on the banks of
the River Tay. Highlights include the majestic Dunkeld Cathedral – part ruin, part
parish church, the old market cross and the pastel-coloured ‘little houses’, built in
the early 1700’s and restored by the National Trust for Scotland.
