Scenic Suffolk

Monday

We pause in the market town of Bury St Edmunds and then it is a short drive to our hotel located in the enviable waterfront area of Ipswich.

Tuesday

Visit to Sutton Hoo, the site of two early medieval cemeteries dating from the 6th & 7th centuries. You can explore the atmospheric Royal Burial Ground and marvel at the full-size Anglo-Saxon ship sculpture. Later we enjoy a 2-hour cruise along the River Deben with on board commentary on the rich wildlife found in the tidal Deben Estuary.

Wednesday

Today we visit Southwold. Located on the Suffolk Heritage Coast it is often viewed as ‘the town that time forgot’! Attractions include the working lighthouse, the colourful sea front beach huts, an award-winning pier and don’t miss out on the famous Water Clock which causes a snigger every 30 minutes!

Thursday

A scenic drive through Dedham Vale and the Stour Valley. We pause at East Bergholt, where John Constable was born before visiting Beth Chatto Gardens. This former wasteland has been transformed into
an informal garden harmonising with the surrounding countryside

Friday

This morning, enjoy a guided tour of the Suffolk Punch Trust, where you will be able to learn about this English breed of working horse. Enjoy a horse-bus ride and also see rare breed farm animals as well as the museum of
rural life and heritage garden, before returning home during the afternoon.
