On this tour we enjoy the scenery of the Solway Coast and the Scottish Borders with visits to a castle full of heritage, gorgeous gardens and historic places. Take in the true beauty of this area of Scotland as we explore this summer.

Monday

We travel north arriving late
afternoon at the Holiday Inn Dumfries
for our 4-night stay.

Tuesday

This morning we drive to
Drumlanrig Castle and Country
Estate - home to the Duke of
Buccleuch and his ancestors for over
400 years, where we enjoy a guided
tour. Later, we head back to Dumfries
where the afternoon is our own to
explore the town and relax.

Wednesday

In the morning we visit the
historic border city of Carlisle. The city
has lots to offer - Carlisle Cathedral, Carlisle Castle, museums and an
excellent pedestrianised centre.
Later, we head to the Devil’s Porridge
Museum, an amazing exhibition which
tells the story of how nearly 30,000
women came together in WW2 to help
produce munitions and explosives to
aid our war effort.

Thursday

We follow the Solway Coast
to Castle Douglas. We enjoy lunch and
time to relax in this 18th century market
town. Afterwards, we head for Threave
Garden & House – a garden for all
seasons which is both a landscaped
beauty and a haven for wildlife.

The Holiday Inn Dumfries is on the edge of Dumfries, nestled in the picturesque Crichton Estate offering an idyllic backdrop for our stay. Brasserie Restaurant and lounge/bar offer views overlooking the Crichton Estate. Access to Neuro’s Spa is available to guests at approx. £3.50pp per day and it is located 2 minutes’ walk from the hotel within the estate and features a 12m heated pool, sauna, & steam room. Most bedrooms feature walk-in showers but some have shower over bath so please specify if this is a requirement, ground floor rooms and accessible room available upon request.
