The Divine Rhine With Plenty of Wine!

Saturday

To Dover for our Channel crossing to France. We continue through to Belgium arriving in time for dinner at the
Globales Post House Hotel, Liege and our overnight stay.

Sunday

We continue into Germany pausing in the beautiful city of Koblenz – Better known as the Deutsches Eck, or
German Corner, where the Rhine and Moselle Rivers converge. Vineyards,
forests and four mountain ranges form the backdrop to this 2,000-year-old city.
Later, we continue to Rudesheim for our 4-night stay at the Hotel Lindenwirt.

Monday

This morning we catch the cable car from Rüdesheim up to the
Niederwald Monument, affording us spectacular views over the Rhine Valley as
we go. From here, we continue by coach to Jagdschloss Niederwald from where
we descend by chairlift down to Assmannshausen, where we board a river boat
for a scenic cruise back to Rüdesheim. After free time for lunch, we visit the
Eberbach Monastery for a 90-minute guided tour and tasting of Eberbach
Riesling wine. Taste buds tingling, we make our way to the RheinWeinWelt wine
cellar to sample more of the good stuff – we taste 5 wines, helping ourselves
from the numerous self-serve dispensers. There are around 160 different wines
from the Rhine region on offer here, so we must choose wisely!

Tuesday

We spend today at leisure in Rüdesheim. We can spend time exploring
the famous Drosselgasse area in the heart of Rüdesheim’s old town, sampling a
glass of wine along the way.

Wednesday

This morning we head to the famous medieval city of Heidelberg.
This outstanding city boasts the oldest – and one of the finest – universities in
the whole of Germany. To help us get our bearings we enjoy a 90-minute guided
walking tour of the city before spending the rest of the day at leisure. As we
wander through the narrow streets of the Old Town, we can admire the iconic
Heidelberg Palace that dominates the skyline here as well as the Alte Brücke
(Old Bridge) straddling the Neckar River.

Thursday

Departing Germany we drive north into Belgium arriving in time for
dinner and our overnight stay at the Apart Hotel Alize in Mouscron.

Friday

Departing after breakfast we pause briefly in the beautiful city of Ypres –
See the market square, dominated by the huge Cloth Hall, with its magnificent
Belfrey, whilst the emotive Menin Gate is only a short distance away. Return to
Calais for the sailing to Dover, returning home during the evening.
