Monday
A brisk drive north, arriving in York late morning. Grab a bite to eat at any of the cafes and coffee shops before heading up to the main attraction in the city - York Minster, built in 1338, it is the largest gothic cathedral of its kind in Northern Europe and is a true feat of architecture and engineering and boasts the biggest expanse of medieval stained glass in the world. Later you can stroll the famous cobbled streets of The Shambles before checking in to our hotel in time for dinner.
Tuesday
Our day begins with a visit to Castle Howard for a self-guided tour. Designed by Sir John Vanbrugh, the 18th-century Castle Howard provided the backdrop for various scenes in Bridgerton and has twice appeared as Brideshead in film and TV adaptations of Evelyn Waugh's classic novel. The seat of the Howard family for over 300 years, this stately home contains wonderful interiors, world-renowned collections of art, porcelain and furniture. Outside, the beautiful grounds feature lakes and waterways, a walled garden, and eye-catching temples and monuments. Later we return to the hotel for dinner and our second night's stay.
Wednesday
Another full day at leisure in York. Perhaps take a boat trip on the River Ouse, stroll down Viking streets at the Jorvik Centre, take a walk on the famous city walls, or explore one of the city's incredible museums… York simply has it all!. Departing around 4.00pm we journey home to the Midlands arriving in the early evening.
Set in beautiful grounds, Mercure York Fairfield Manor Hotel blends modern amenities with old-world style in an 18th-century Georgian manor house. Upon entering the hotel, you are welcomed by an open, spacious lounge with sofas. The old wing has a sweeping oak staircase that leads to guest rooms and the newer wing is accessible by stairs or lift. All bedrooms have a Freeview HD TV, individual en-suite bathroom facilities and tea/coffee making facilities. York city centre is only a 15-minute drive away on one direct road.
