Tuesday
Today we have an included visit to the Sandringham Estate. This grade II listed building is set in some 24 hectares of stunning gardens and is probably the most famous stately home in Norfolk. With knowledgeable guides in every room of the house, a museum housing extraordinary collections of Royal vehicles, rare ceramics, photographs and memorabilia there is plenty to see and enjoy. Owned by His Majesty The King and was originally purchased by Queen Victoria in 1862 for the Prince of Wales. The House, along with Balmoral, it is not part of The Crown Estate, it is in fact - the personal property of The King.
Wednesday
Today we visit Houghton Hall - one of the finest Palladian Houses in this country. Built in the 1720’s, for Sir Robert Walpole, Britain’s First Prime Minister. We have a tour with the head gardener which takes in the awardwinning 5-acre walled garden which includes a spectacular double-sided herbaceous border, a formal rose parterre, a Mediterranean garden and much more. Later we visit the traditional seaside resort of Hunstanton.
(Note: Due to steps, uneven paths and cobbled areas, this attraction is not recommended for wheelchair users).
Thursday
This morning we make our way to Sheringham where we board the North Norfolk Railway for a return journey where we are treated to views of the smart, Victorian seaside resort of Sheringham, the Georgian market town of Holt, and the pretty village and shingle beaches at Weybourne. Next, we continue to Blakeney for a 1-hour cruise with commentary along the National Trust nature reserve, where we have an opportunity to get ‘up close and personal’ to the resident grey seal and common seal colonies without causing a disturbance.
Friday
We depart the hotel after breakfast, making comfort stops and a suitable lunch stop en-route. Arriving back in Henley in the afternoon.
There can be few more imposing hotels in the east of England than the Dukes Head. Its striking powder-blue facade, a study in Georgian elegance, is as much a part of Kings Lynns Tuesday Market Place as the stalls that have traded here for generations. Its the quintessential market town hotel restyled for the discerning twenty-first-century traveller. The rooms are large and are all equipped with en-suite facilities and have TV, telephone, iron and hospitality tray.
Mobility Grade: 4. The hotel is accessible throughout with a lift to all floors.
