Sunday
We drive north pausing in medieval Chester before continuing to Caernarfon arriving during the late afternoon.
Monday
This morning we visit the unique village of Portmeirion. Built by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis between 1925 and 1975, Portmeirionrecreates an Italian village, with a truly Mediterranean feel and was the backdrop for the 1960’s TV series ‘The Prisoner’. In the afternoon our return takes us via the Inigo Jones Slate Works - where a self-guided tour allows you to discover a wide variety of quality natural slate products and Welsh slate crafts, along with other Celtic and Welsh products.
Tuesday
This morning we have a ride to the village of Llanberis, in the shadow of Mount Snowdon. Here we join the Llanberis Lake Railway for a delightful ride along the lake shore. We have time to explore and obtain lunch in Llanberis. We return to Caernarfon for free time, where you may wish to visit the castle - one of the greatest buildings of the Middle Ages and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Wednesday
We begin with a ride through the beautiful National Park of Snowdonia to Blaenau Ffestiniog. Here we catch the Ffestiniog Railway for an exhilarating ride across the mountains, descending to the sea at Porthmadog. We have time to explore and have lunch in Porthmadog before catching the Welsh Highland Railway train which takes us through Beddgelert and all the way back to Caernarfon.
Thursday
Departing after breakfast we return via Llangollen, famously situated on the River Dee, overlooked by its magnificent castle, before returning home in the afternoon.
This stylish 3-star hotel is located in the famous coastal town of Caernarfon, North Wales. It has superb leisure facilities, including a sixteen-metre swimming pool. The bright and airy bedrooms all have TV, tea/coffee making facilities to make your stay a comfortable one. The restaurant is bright and spacious and there is a contemporary pub-style bar offering plenty of comfortable seating. There are also four luxurious, cosy lounge rooms with plenty of sofas and armchairs. Leisure facilities include an indoor pool, sauna and steam room.
